There are 9,000 wineries in Bordeaux and they are usually called Chateaux. There are 57 appellations of Bordeaux wine.
The wines in Bordeaux are generally categorized into six families:
- Red Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur
- Red Côtes de Bordeaux
- Red Libourne
- Red Graves and Médoc
- Dry white wines
- Sweet white wines
There are four different classifications of Bordeaux:
- The Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855
- The 1955 Official Classification of St.-Émilion
- The 1959 Official Classification of Graves
- The Cru Bourgeois Classification
Out of the above four classifications, The Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 are among the most expensive wines in the world.
